Discussion: What is the Typical Bulk Order Processing Time?
For those of us who organize group orders for friends or organizations, "bulk" processing times are a major consideration. Ordering 10 or 20 cards is a different beast than ordering just one, and it’s important to have realistic expectations. I wanted to start a discussion on what the typical turnaround is for bulk orders lately.
Most vendors have a separate workflow for bulk orders. While it can save you a lot of money, it also adds complexity. The vendor has to coordinate the production of multiple different IDs, all with their own photos and data, and ensure that everything is correct before shipping the whole batch. This naturally takes longer than processing a single ID.
Factors That Affect Bulk Processing Times
- Data Consolidation: It takes time for the vendor to verify and format the data for a large number of people. If one person in your group provides a bad photo, it can delay the entire batch.
- Production Capacity: High-end vendors can only produce a certain number of cards per day. A large bulk order might take up their entire capacity for several days.
- Quality Control: A professional vendor will check every single card in a bulk order, which adds a significant amount of time to the final stage.
In my experience, a bulk order of 10-20 cards usually takes about 5-7 days longer than a single order. What are your recent experiences?
