Canada Review: Is British Columbia (BC) Truly Too Hard to Replicate?
There is a common myth in our community that the British Columbia (BC) novelty ID is "too hard" to replicate correctly because of its complex landscape background and advanced security features. I wanted to start a discussion about whether this is actually true in 2026, or if the top-tier workshops have finally mastered the BC layout. I recently received a new BC card and decided to put this theory to the test. Let’s talk about provincial complexity.
First off, BC is definitely a high-complexity province. The mountain background requires perfect color calibration to avoid looking "flat" or "neon." However, the card I received was absolutely stunning. The imagery was sharp, detailed, and matching the official palette perfectly. Let’s talk about the details. Is it actually hard to get right?
What Vendors Often Get Wrong on BC IDs
- Landscape Blurring: Lower-tier vendors often use a low-res scan for the background, leading to a blurry mountain image. A pro card will have thousands of perfectly defined lines.
- Window Transparency: As we discussed before, the secondary photo window is a major indicator of quality. If it’s not perfectly clear, the card is a failure.
- Color Balance: The specific shades of blue and green used in the BC design are very hard to match. Make sure your vendor uses high-end calibrated inks.
I’ve found that BC is only "too hard" for budget shops. A top-tier workshop with the right equipment can produce a BC ID that is virtually indistinguishable from the real thing. What have your recent experiences been? Have you found any BC cards that were particularly great (or poor)? Let’s share our Canadian findings and help everyone find the most accurate cards!
