We know that polycarbonate is tough, but did you know that it also has a very specific "metallic" sound when dropped on a hard surface? I wanted to start a discussion about how we can use this "sound test" to verify the quality of our orders. Let’s talk about the acoustics of quality materials. How do we hear the difference?
First off, standard PVC cards have a dull "thud" sound. Polycarbonate, because it is much denser and more rigid, produces a sharp, high-pitched "ring" or "snap" when dropped. This is one of the easiest ways for a professional to tell a high-quality card from a cheap imitation without even looking at it. Let’s talk about the details. How do we test it?
How to Perform the "Sound Test" at Home
- Drop Test: Gently drop your card onto a hard surface like a granite countertop or a piece of glass. Listen for that sharp, metallic ring.
- Snap Test: Hold the card between your fingers and "snap" it. A high-quality card will have a very distinct and loud snap compared to a standard credit card.
- Flex Comparison: Compare the sound of your novelty ID with an official polycarbonate card (if you have one). The sounds should be virtually identical.
