Discussion: What is a Realistic Return or Replacement Policy in Our Industry?

Let’s talk about something that everyone hopes they never have to use: the return policy. When you’re ordering a novelty ID, what should you actually expect if the card arrives and it’s not what you expected? Is a "refund" even possible, or is a "replacement" the best you can hope for? I wanted to start a discussion about the current state of return and replacement policies in our community. Let’s talk about buyer protection.

In my experience, a "full refund" is almost never available because the product is custom-made for you. However, a reputable vendor will always stand by their work and offer a free replacement if there is a clear error on their part (e.g., a typo that wasn’t in your data or a major production defect). Let’s talk about realistic expectations. How do we protect our investment?

What to Look for in a Solid Replacement Policy

  • Clear Error Definition: A good policy will clearly state what qualifies as a vendor error versus a customer error (like providing a bad photo).
  • Ease of Claim: How hard is it to get a replacement? Do you have to send the card back? Usually, a photo of the card being destroyed is enough.
  • Turnaround Time: A professional vendor will prioritize replacement orders and get them out to you as quickly as possible.

I’ve had one replacement over the years and the vendor was very professional about it. They just asked for a photo of the card cut in half and sent a new one the next day. This level of service is what separates the pros from the scammers. What have your recent experiences been? Have you found any vendors who are particularly great (or difficult) with their replacement policies lately? Let’s share our "buyer protection" stories.

The barcode scanned on a couple of readers for me. It was smoother than I expected.
