Discussion: More Advice Needed on State Selection for Beginners
Building on our previous discussions, I wanted to start a more focused thread for beginners who are still struggling with state selection. We’ve covered a lot of general advice, but let’s talk about some specific "entry-level" states that are currently known for having high-quality, reliable novelty versions. If you’re just starting out, where should you put your money?
For a first-timer, I often suggest looking at states with modern, multi-layer designs like Oregon, Utah, or Pennsylvania. Why? Because these states have very standardized security features that top-tier vendors have already mastered. They are "tried and true" options that are very likely to result in a high-quality card.
Top Recommended States for First-Time Buyers
- Utah: Clean design, very consistent quality across multiple vendors, and excellent scannability.
- Oregon: Beautiful modern layout with great transparency features that pros know how to handle.
- Pennsylvania: A classic design that has been perfected by the leading shops in the industry.
I would generally suggest avoiding states with very brand-new designs (less than 6 months old) until the market has had a chance to catch up and perfect the templates. What are your thoughts? For those who have been around for a while, what was your first state and would you recommend it today? Let’s help our new members make a smart first choice.
