Discussion: More on UV Feature Quality and Professional Verification Tools

Following up on our earlier discussions about UV features, I wanted to address some of the more "professional" verification tools that are becoming more common. We know that a simple blacklight is a good start, but as security becomes more advanced, so do the tools used to check them. I wanted to start a discussion about how to ensure your IDs can pass even a professional-level UV check. Let’s talk about advanced UV security. How do we stay ahead?

First off, professional scanners often use multiple wavelengths of UV light. While we mostly use 365nm, some high-end systems also use shorter or longer wavelengths to check for specific "reactive" chemicals in the ink and card stock. The best vendors are those who are already testing their cards against these multi-wave systems. Let’s talk about staying pro-ready.

What to Look for in Pro-Level UV Features

  • Dual-Color Reaction: Some newer IDs have features that glow in two different colors under the same UV light. This is a very advanced feature that only the top shops can get right.
  • Sharpness and Detail: Even under professional magnification, the UV images should remain sharp and not look like they were "smeared" on.
  • Card Stock Fluorescence: Official card stock often has a very specific, low-level fluorescence that is different from standard plastic. The best vendors are using the correct materials to match this.

I’ve recently been using a multi-wave UV lamp to test my latest orders and I’m seeing some incredible results from our top-rated vendors. They are clearly staying ahead of the curve. What are your recent observations? Have you found any vendors who are particularly great at these advanced UV features? Let’s share our "blacklight" findings!
